Why Some People Are Selfish

Selfish persons are not capable of loving others, but they are not capable of loving themselves either. Being selfish is not good but being self-centered is worse because you never learn to listen to other people.

Everybody deserves to a chance to reach a dream no matter how impossible it looks. However, some people believe that they might not be able to reach them and that’s why they save all of their resources to themselves just to ease some of the insecurities. A lot of selfish people have unmet expectations which make them feel insecure resulting to fear of trust and lack of control over their lives.

But when someone you have to deal with regularly is consistently self-involved and self-centered, they can make your life miserable. If someone does not care about anyone else, he/she is not likely to be very responsive to you in any way other than evaluating how you can meet their his/her needs. They love only themselves. Selfish people are mean and they are good for nothing. They are concerned only about themselves. They are expecting people to reach out or behave in a manner that suits them.

Understanding doesn’t mean letting them off the hook. But if you can get behind the behavior and discover what motivates it, you’ll have a better chance of responding in a way that might make it less powerful. We often make assumptions about what motivates people but those assumptions are often inaccurate. These people make decisions that benefit them. They don’t give a damn what the impact this might have on others.

Dealing with these kinds of people is not easy but the first step in dealing with them effectively is to better understand what causes them to act that way in the first place. Do not take them personally. We often make misleading assumptions. A selfish person always puts his/her own needs first. The problem arises only when we do things for ourselves at the expense of others. When you make life difficult for others to meet your own ends, then that kind of selfishness is the selfishness that you’d like to avoid. Putting yourself first is not selfish. But thinking about yourself constantly is selfish.

At present, it has become increasingly important for people to think about themselves before others. It becomes a status quo and the basis of the society. There is no need to be distressed by the situation of the modern society. Make sure that you develop a personality which can adjust well to demands of this generation.

In my case, its good to be a little selfish, rather than being completely selfless. When you are too concerned with others and help them when they are in need, you make them parasite and dependent on you. More likely than not, when you need help, no one gives a damn about you.

Indian Students Don’t Want to Leave Canada – Why?

In the year 2017, an unprecedented number of Indian students have chosen to move to Canada for their higher education. By this, not only did the application rates in Canadian Universities have increased in this academic year but also has strengthened the immigration ties between India and Canada. According to the Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), in the next 10 years, a half million of international students, not only from India but from nations worldwide would be studying and living in this Maple country.

To an amazement, many students of the previous year who moved to Canada for their higher education and were expected to return to their home country after their course of study, have changed their minds, applied for new visas and expressed interest settle in Canada. CBIE found that from 2008 to 2016, the number of students staying back in Canada after their course of education has doubled. In the year 2008, approximately 128,000 students moved to Canada on study permit. By the end of 2016 the figure has tremendously increased to more than 400,000; which indeed signifies the growing preference of Canada among students.

It’s a no doubt that that reasons like the vibrant lifestyle the city offers, the humble attitude of people, the multi-cultural diversity the country offers makes the place to be home alike. But, when surveyed, students marked the Canadian Permanent Residency as the major reason of why they wanted to stay back in Canada; highlighting the following aspects of Canada PR that attracted them the most.

1. Improved Immigration Process- The country has a straightforward process of immigration, most students said.

With the recent changes make to the Express Entry System of Canada, the economic immigration has become more straightforward for applicants, especially for students with international education. The system, more than being focused on a need of a job emphasis on the quality of the applicant’s education, his/her language skills and the work experience gained. Moreover, the recent announcement of applicants getting additional 15-30 points for Canadian Post-Secondary education which eventually eases the process of obtaining a Permanent Residency became a godsend.

2. Post Graduate Work Program- After that high-quality education, students are striving for that globally recognized work experience

Working in Canada is easy with international education. Thanks to the Post Graduate Work Program that makes it easier, said many students. Certainly, this program is no less than master key for students to unlock their permanent home in Canada. A graduate in Canada can immediately apply for a Post-Graduation Work Permit and work for any employer. Since employers too won’t be required to obtain an LMIA to hire this candidate, it proves the simplest method for both to fulfill their purpose. Also, this program allows the privilege to take up any higher courses while working for Canadian employers.

In a nutshell, the work experience upon an extra degree will bet sure chances for Canadian permanent residency.

3. Canadian Experience Class- A key to a faster permanent residency upon gaining Canadian work experience

For Canadian students with Canadian work experience, Canada Express Entry has an exclusive program- the Canadian Express Class. Through this program, any student with min. 1 yr of Canadian work experience (either part-time or full-time) in the past 3 yrs, can file for Canada PR and gain permanent residency within the least span of time. Moreover, if this candidate has Canadian education to show up, it instantly boosts his points and grants him with a quicker PR.

Taking into account this unique CEC program interlinked with quicker Canadian PR, many Indian students have chosen to stay back in Canada, gain work experience and invite their families for a permanent stay upon PR success.

Well, while these are the major aspects that students migrate to Canada and stay back permanently, the story does not end here. In today’s time, majority of students opt to settle in Canada than in the United States (which was once considered the most chosen nation for higher education). According to the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers, the number of students showing in American Universities has dropped by 39 percent in one year whereas Canada has experienced a vast increase in the number of students applying for international education. The Canadian University and the University of Toronto have witnessed over 20 percent increase in overseas student applications while University of Wilfrid Laurier and McMaster University have reported an increase of 30 percent in student applicants.

When surveyed, the following reasons have been found that contribute to the shift of students in preferring Canada over the United States:

  • Change of Ministry
  • Visa barriers and restrictions
  • Increased cost of education
  • Improved Canada immigration factors for students
  • Urge of Canada invite as many as 450,00 students by 2022
  • Competitive employment
  • Canada’s healthcare system over US healthcare system

Summing up, today Canada has gained the tremendous power to give wings to a student’s dream. If you too have dreams to settle in Canada on a long term or give your career the touch of Canadian education, come; we will help.

Studying Effectively For Exams – A How-To Guide

Entrance exams after middle schools have become the common norm for the students who aspire to enter specific career streams. These exams have become the intrinsic component because of the higher number of aspirants and the emergent competition dynamics in almost every field. The seats are limited while each year large numbers of students want to get through the screening and gain a seat in the top institutions in higher education and learning. An entrance exam has, therefore, become a career kiosk for the student and needs to be mastered if the future is to be secured!

What is most required for cracking the entrance exam?

It is important to note the fact that a student despite passing his 10th or 12th classes board exams with good marks finds difficulty in getting through the entrance and screening tests organized by various institutions. This is an irony! Experts in the coaching and counseling field opine that the gap lies not in the substance but in the direction. The student has grabbed all the concepts pretty well but he still finds a problem in applying those concepts of the syllabus while attempting the competition papers at entrance exams! This means that proper guidance is sought by the competitor and in a dynamic manner too; so that he is able to mold the acquired knowledge and learning as per the demand of the higher order questions served to him in the competition.

How to seek good guidance and assistance for the entrance exam?

Choice of the mentor or guide is necessary who not only delivers the core concepts but also inculcates in the student, the ability to make use of those concepts in solving the presented problems and analyses. Practice is also important and thus regular test series need to be attempted by the student. A self-study and assessment schedule should be considered as a generic continuous activity by the student.

Train your mind for the exam

Your mind should be prepared to perform well during an exam. This requires consistency over a long period of time. If you are planning to give your exam in 9-12 slot, you should practice solving papers at the same time so that your mind is trained to be super active during that period.

Stay Physically and Mentally Balanced

Keeping yourself and your mind healthy is quite neglected during exam preparation but it can have adverse effects in the final outcome. Exercise daily and sleep well so that your mind and body are fresh when you are taking the exam. Avoid sleeping late and tune your mind so that it works best in the time slot of your final exam.

With these confirmations, the entrance exam kiosk lays wide open for the aspirant for sure.

The Benefits of Reading on a Daily Basis

Do you read on a regular basis? If so, what is it that you read? Is it newspapers, magazines, Facebook updates or Tweets? It’s a good idea to read on a regular basis. For those who don’t need miss out on a lot of benefits that reading may offer. Given below is a description of some benefits that you may enjoy.

1. Mental Stimulation

According to research studies, people who are mentally stimulated are less prone to Dementia and Alzheimer’s as the brain stays active and doesn’t lose power. It works just like other muscles in your body. Actually, you need to exercise your brain should you want to keep it in good shape. Aside from reading, playing games like chess may also help you improve cognitive stimulation.

2. Stress

If you have a day job, you may suffer from stress. And due to stress, you may have a lot of other issues in your life. But a good novel may take you into a new world. In the same way, a well-written and engaging article is means of distraction from the things that can give you stress. So, if you read, you can relax.

3. Knowledge

Good books and articles can provide loads of information. You never know when you may need this information. So, having a lot of knowledge can help you deal with the challenges you may have in your life.

A Good Story, But Is It True?

The story: An Ethiopian goat herder of the Ninth Century became amused by his goats’ behavior. Some of the older goats had begun to behave like the young ones. They played chase, jumped sporadically, and seemed to have boundless energy. Then, he noticed that those goats congregated around specific plants that yielded red berries. The goats ravenously ate the berries. After he determined the peculiar goat behavior and deduced the cause of that behavior, the goat herder – did nothing.

A traveling monk passed through the grazing area and asked the goat herder if he might warm himself by the fire and spend the night. His request granted, the two men shared a meal and conversation, during which the goat herder shared his observation about a plant with red berries. Intrigued, the monk gathered a small sack of the berries and he took them with him to his travel destination, a monastery. He allowed the berries to naturally dry out while he acclimated himself to monastic life. Once he had the time to experiment with the dried fruit, he pounded some of the dried berries, and the seeds therein, into a powder and mixed the powder with boiling water. He wanted to learn what the goats experienced. However, he found the sight of the black liquid repulsive, with a bitter taste. He changed the color by adding some cream. He changed the taste by adding some sugar. Then, he drank the liquid.

The monk discovered that he had not tired at mid-day, when he usually took a nap. He seemed to have acquired energy. Had he duplicated the experience of the goats? By experimenting further, he learned that by adding more of the powder to hot water, he did not need to sleep at night either. He believed that he may have discovered a plant that could reverse the aging process. He talked about it, got other monks interested, and word spread about the wondrous power of the plant. A growing industry developed to provide the drink derived in the Kingdom of Kaffa, Ethiopia. The drink became known as coffee. Is this story true?

The alternate story: People have sucked on the red berries of the plant for so long that no one remembers who started it. The berries were known to impart a sort of high feeling of energy, and for some reason, people who sucked on them always craved to do it again. Eventually someone made a drink out of the seeds of the plant after roasting and grinding them. No one remembers who did that. Which story do you like best?

The Role & Responsibilities Of Students And Teachers

Students and teachers are often characterized as the most transformation experience in teacher education. During student teaching, you will enact in the classroom the teaching theories, strategies, and standards you learned in your core courses.

Our world is operated by the use of technology to garner information. Effective teachers must make consistent and appropriate use of technology to support the educational goals they have for themselves and their students. Whether it is through the use of blogs to facilitate discussions or using a smart board to locate countries around the world, teachers and students benefit from the purposeful use of technology for educational objectives.

Effective teachers are life-long learners. They connect their day-to-day activities to coherent social, philosophical, and political frameworks. They research their own practice. They participate in the professional and academic activities of their academic and professional communities. Learning is best facilitated through well-structured activities that challenge learners intellectually, academically, and socially and bridge students’ learning to their real-world experiences.

Remember that teaching is collaborative and dynamic and everyone’s teaching can constantly be improved. Both your cooperating teacher and your coach can be excellent resources to help you improve your teaching and to ensure that your students are learning. The successes and struggles, highs and lows, are a common aspect of teacher development that many other teachers have experienced and continue to experience throughout their careers. The working of the teacher is hard to enact Temple’s Standards for Skillful Teaching however, you will not be alone.

At colleges and university, effective teachers ground learning in the thorough knowledge of subject matter and in the ways of knowing that characterize academic disciplines. Effective teachers connect subject matter and ways of knowing to students’ prior knowledge and provide meaningful opportunities for them to engage and construct new knowledge in the classroom.

The professional relationships develop your cooperating teachers and your university coach and the teaching experience reaction heavily on the success of the student. The cooperating teacher has expressed a willingness to share his or her professional experience and knowledge as well as a commitment to work with new teachers. The university coach has valuable experience as a teacher and often as an administrator.

Although your university coach is responsible for assessing your growth as a teacher his/her responsibility also involves coaching you in your development as a teacher and providing detailed, formative feedback about your teaching and planning.

Why Reading Is So Important

There are so many books all over the world, covering different topics. There are fiction and the non-fiction kinds of books that suit different age groups. Reading is very important, even though many people do not seem to realize it.

In today’s society, it is important to be knowledgeable and learn as much as you can about different topics. Some of the reasons why reading is so important include:

It is fundamental to the functioning of the society today

There are so many people who are unable to read so as to understand the instructions that are indicated on different things such as medicine. This can be scary to many since it is such an important function. When you cannot read, then you may not be able to handle applications without some help. There are the warning and road signs that can be difficult to understand if you cannot read.

Landing jobs

If you want to find a good job, then reading is important. There are jobs that require one to read to be able to perform. Memos, reports, and so on have to be read, understood and then given a response. When you read widely, you become more knowledgeable and therefore you may end up impressing the panel with what you know.

Develops the mind

When you read, then you are essentially developing your own mind. The mind needs to be exercised. When you read and understand, then the ability of your mind automatically grows. When children are taught and encouraged to read extensively, then it improves their language skills. They get better at concentrating and listening. This then mold a person to be better.

Discovering new things

This is the best way in which you can discover things you had no idea about. EBooks, magazines, and all sorts of books are great tools that can be used to discover things. It is very easy to educate yourself regarding different issues and topics. In this age, there is so much information that is available out there. The only way that you can make use of this information is by actually reading it.

Developing one’s imagination

When you read, then your imagination develops in the process. In as much as computer games and television are great, they are great for amusement. This is something that does not require much thinking. As for reading, you can travel to any part of the world. You can go on adventures, take on a character, and so many other things that would have been unknown to you.

Creativity

Reading makes you more creative. When you are reading something such as a novel, you keep on thinking about how things will go in the end. You create your own story-line and regardless of whether the author thinks like you or not, every twist makes everything so much better. Even when you decide to read an inspirational book, you get challenged and you start thinking beyond your comfort zone. When you read, your self-image improves incredibly. These are some of the things that warrant a lot of reading at all times.

Silicon Carbide – All About This Serendipitous Discovery

So many important discoveries that we know of today were serendipitous discoveries, which means they were all discovered accidentally. For example, discovery of microwave, X-rays, pacemakers, cereals and so on. We can all agree we are all thankful for those accidents. Some of these discoveries have made life easier or have properties that proved to be beneficial for us. One such discovery is Silicon Carbide (SiC). It’s a compound of Silicon and Carbon.

This compound has been used for almost hundred years. It is an important substance for sandpapers, cutting tools etc. It has other applications that have increased in recent times. For example, SiC is used in – light emitting diodes, industrial furnaces, even rocket engines and so on. Let us know more about this compound.
History of the Compound:

American inventor Edward G. Acheson in 1891 discovered Silicon Carbide by accident. He was attempting to produce artificial diamonds. He heated a mixture of clay and powdered coke in an iron bowl, where the bowl and a carbon arc served as electrodes. There were bright green crystals found attached to the carbon electrode. The new compound was as hard as a diamond and was named Carborundum. The name of the production process was thus named Acheson process.

Eureka!

It was an amazing and important discovery. Acheson was able to form a substance that was hard enough to cut glass. This compound was initially used to polish the gems. This new product was obtained easily from raw materials that were available at a cheap price. Therefore, these could be produced in large quantities. Soon, it became an important industrial abrasive (an abrasive is used for the purpose polishing or cleaning hard surfaces). Who thought an accident would provide the world with an important discovery?

Properties of Silicon Carbide:

– It has low density and high strength.

– High temperature resistant.

– Thermal shock resistant.

– Wear and tear resistant.

– Exceptional chemical resistance.

– Low thermal expansion.

– High thermal conductivity.

Applications of Silicon Carbide:

– It is used in abrasive and cutting tools. It is a very popular abrasive and it is formed by low-cost materials, is highly durable.

– It is used in the production of the structural material. For example, kiln furniture and accessories, trauma plates in ballistic vests etc.

– Used in automobile parts like ceramic brake discs.

– Used in electrical systems.

– Power Electronic devices is another application of SiC. As SiC exhibits the properties of a semiconductor, it is used in high voltage devices.

– The LEDs that are based on the phenomenon of electroluminescence, were based on SiC.

– SiC is a desirable mirror material in Astronomical Telescope.

– Used in heating elements.

– Used as a heterogeneous catalyst support.

– SiC has application in nuclear fuel particles. It is an important material in TRISO coated fuel particles.

– Used for production of Graphene.

– Acts as a fuel for making steel.

These above-mentioned applications are some of the ways in which Silicon Carbide can be used. Though Acheson accidentally discovered SiC, it proved to be a very useful compound for the industrial sector as well as in the field of science. What do you think?

All About Silicon Carbide Ceramic

In 1891, it was a eureka moment for Edward Goodrich Acheson when he accidentally discovered Silicon Carbide. This amazing compound was produced in form of bright green crystals, hard enough to cut glass and even diamond. It was the first man-made abrasive and was initially used to polish gems. It has been used in so many fields like automobile parts, fuel for production of steel, high voltage parts and so on. One such use is in the production of Ceramics. This article aims to shed some light on these kinds of Ceramics. We will discuss its uses, benefits, and applications. Let’s begin.

What is “Silicon Carbide Ceramics”?

Silicon Carbide Ceramics are black in color and have high strength. These are believed to be the hardest. These have thermal shock resistance better than alumina. These hard ceramics consist of grains of SiC bound together with the help of Sintering.

What are its uses?

Ceramics that are based on Silicon Carbide are used for manufacturing of articles that are going to be subjected to intense mechanical wear and extremely high temperatures. These can maintain mechanical strength at the high temperature of 1400 C. These are widely used in many industries like nuclear power, machine building, and metal.

How are these Ceramics produced?

They are produced by two methods:

  • Reaction Bonded
  • Sintered – The main method to form ceramics that are based on Silicon Carbide is high-temperature sintering of SiC powder with various binding additives. Given below are the most widely used types of ceramics and the mode of their preparation.
  • Silicon Nitride Bonded- It is produced from a mixture of Silicon Carbide granules and Silicon, in a nitrogen atmosphere at a temperature below the melting point of Silicon.
  • Reaction Bonded- It is made from granules Silicon Carbide and fine powder of silicon and graphite. Heat treatment carried out in 1500- 1650 C.
  • Direct Sintered- A pulp-like material is prepared from – SiC powder, synthesizing additives of boron and aluminum, various binding agents and carbon-containing additives. The pulp is used to make the required pieces by drying at the temperature of 2050 C.
  • Composite Bonded- Fine powder of pure SiC is mixed with Silicon and binding material. Heated in a nitrogen environment at a temperature above 1350 C.

Benefits of Silicon Carbide based Ceramics:

  • These have High Thermal Conductivity
  • Have Low Thermal Expansion.
  • Have Excellent thermal shock resistance.
  • Are known for their Hardness.
  • Possess properties of a Semiconductor.
  • RI (Refractive Index) is greater than that of a diamond.

Application of Silicon-Based Ceramics:

  • Wear-resistant nozzles and other wear parts.
  • Thermocouple protection tubes.
  • Kiln system components.
  • Faucet washers.
  • Ceramic armor protection systems.
  • Heating elements.
  • Bearings for high temperatures.
  • Used in thin filament pyrometry and steel production.

Sic has the highest corrosion resistance out of all the ceramic materials. Their superior properties for power devices have revolutionized the power electronics industry. Though it was accidentally discovered, it sure has made a concrete place for itself. Isn’t it? Let us know your views.

Immortality and Education

The thinking process is a little convoluted, but I think, some scientists statements about music to the contrary, technically it begins with artists.

Artists present thoughts that are expressed in the most free medium relative to its communicability to most people. There are many people who don’t understand music-it can depend radically on one’s sense of taste, or how loud the music is played, or whether one hates violins, and this and that thing. But artwork is easily communicated as either something representational or abstract, which carries certain subliminal messages about symbolism and emotion very easily to a large population. Having a perspective on art does not require as much intellectual training as appreciating music-music requires appreciation, whereas artwork merely requires perspective. Therefore, artwork does not require the level of emotional sophistication or commitment that music requires. Understanding some music actually requires playing an instrument, which is not at all as common as is usually assumed. Real talent in art is far more common than real talent in composing or playing instruments.

The general process I have observed for thought is:

Art → Literature → Philosophy → Science

(this also may continue to Polymathy → Magic → Immortality).

Although literature is an important step, I think the next truly significant step is philosophy, where the symbolism of art and literature is formed into knowledge.

So, in my view, the creative process does not begin with philosophers. There is a lot of basic investigation of visual forms-rudimentary investigation of intelligence-and a lot of reading-experience of abstract concepts, which is necessary before doing meaningful things with logic.

And it is true that for some mathematics and representations of mathematics (such as musical harmonies, golden ratios, Fibonacci sequences, and classical beauty) come first, because for certain people the nature of logic is mathematics, but that is not true for everyone.

So it seems in the philosophical path art and literature come first, but in the mathematical path music and certain mathematical logic come first.

However, it can be argued that if we assume philosophy is the source of all fundamental logic (logic being a discipline of philosophy originally), then where mathematics depends on the fundamental it also depends on philosophy, which it has been argued, in turn depends on literature, which depends on art.

So, as far as the fundamental, it seems that art rather than philosophy comes first, and literature may also come earlier than philosophy.

This is easily shown from the depiction of human development, and even aspects of modern education, where children do finger-painting before they do drawing, and drawing before they do writing, and writing before they do critical thinking, and critical thinking before they do mathematics. It is also clear that those who are extremely smart will want knowledge of many languages, which is an aspect of polymathy, and those who want to do very well with languages will want something like magic, and those who truly succeed with magic will become immortals (whether or not this is possible is not entirely clear to me, but it is one of the ultimate goals I have found).
